Hanuman - Java

Hanuman is the Hindu Monkey King God. He features heavily  in the Ramayana and Muhabarata, the great Hindu epics.

This type of puppet is called a Wayang Golek and comes from Java. It is a simple rod puppet controlled from below. The term Wayang means performance and appears before many different techniques. For example Wayang Kulit are shadow puppets and Wayang Topeng are masks.
